Raleigh, N.C.- Governor Pat McCrory released a statement today encouraging North Carolinians to vote in primary elections occurring throughout the state and thanking citizens who have already voted early.
“Elections at every level are important to keep government accountable and ensure all of our citizens are being represented,” said Governor McCrory, who voted last week in Charlotte. “I encourage everyone to exercise one of their most important civic duties by voting today and thank all those who have already participated during early voting this year. The high voter-turnout we have already seen through early voting is evidence that we have a state that is engaged and informed.”
The governor applauded turnout for the early voting period which concluded on Saturday. During the 10-day period, 259,590 ballots were cast, compared to 172,972 over the 17-day early voting period in the 2010 primary. The 86,618 additional ballots reflect a 50 percent increase in voters who participated in 2014 over 2010, the last non-presidential primary.
