Military support group sponsoring April 25 fishing event

Press release

CHARLES GEORGE VA MEDICAL CENTER, Asheville – Operation North State, a North Carolina military support organization, is sponsoring the second “Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival” for 45 active duty military and Veteran wounded warriors from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 24 at Badin Lake in central North Carolina.

The event matches experienced wounded warrior fishermen with experienced volunteer host counterparts for a day of fun on the water. The North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission has waived the one-day fishing license requirement for the wounded warriors who will fish for bass or crappie.

Although it is not a competition, there is a competitive nature to the event, as the fisherman hauling in the largest fish and most pounds receive trophies. Each wounded warrior fisherman will also receive up to $400 in donated gifts, along with meals throughout the day.
Terry Snyder, Operation North State founder declared, “It’s a “fun-day” outing that I knew was needed and would be enjoyed by the wounded warriors and disabled veterans; so many of them are sportsmen and love to fish and be on the water. Their injuries have taken this pleasure anyway from many of them.” Snyder added that the organization has tried to make the event as easy as possible for participants to get involved.

For more information interested Veterans and wounded warriors can call (336) 764-5967 or e-mail: snydert33@gmail.com or mailbox@operationnorthstate.com. The selection process is first-come, first served.
Of the 40 boats that took part in the event last year, 25 of the hosts were Veterans. Another 20 Veterans on land helped make the day memorable for the disabled Veteran and military warriors. They have tried to make it easy for everyone to take part and have a good time. Snyder said “It’s all about providing a special outing that most of the guys won’t experience otherwise and to develop new friendships.”
