Press release from Mountain Child Advocacy Center:
Mountain Child Advocacy Center proudly announces the following events in recognition and support of April’s National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
April 5th kicks off a month of events to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. Join us from 2:15-2:45 pm at the E-loop located between 200 College Street and the College Street parking garage in downtown Asheville; to proclaim that every child deserves a happy and safe childhood. Our partners in prevention include the Director of Buncombe County Health and Human Services, Stoney Blevins, County Commissioner Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, DHHS Staff, and the Mountain Child Advocacy Center board and staff. We will close the event by planting a pinwheel garden with local students to represent the bright future every child deserves and the bright future Buncombe County strives to offer all young people who call our mountains home.
On April 7th, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, HCA-Mission is sponsoring Painting for Prevention, an education and fundraising event at the Russell and Armstrong Gallery, 24 N. Lexington Avenue, Downtown Asheville. Gallery owners Jeremy Russell and Alicia Anne Armstrong have made art for 20 years in Asheville. They have graciously opened their space to help us raise awareness about child abuse prevention. The itinerary for the evening includes speeches from prevention partners from Mountain CAC and BC Foster Care, refreshments, music, and an auction for one of Jeremy Russell’s pieces. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Mountain CAC’s prevention program.
On April 19th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm, join us at Mountain Child Advocacy Center’s downtown office at 124 College Street, Third Floor, for a film showing of “Spare the Child”, a local film production from the Justice Film Collective. The short documentary explores the childhoods and subsequent adulthoods of three diverse survivors of childhood abuse and the lifelong impact on the human body, heart, and psyche. This event is open to the community and free of charge. There will be an expert panel of community professionals and filmmakers for a Talk-Back and Q/A session following the screening.
On April 27th, Mountain Child Advocacy Center will be opening our doors from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at 124 College St., Third Floor in downtown Asheville for a reception and tour of our new therapeutic space. Mountain CAC Board and Staff will be available to answer questions about our services and mission, to prevent harm, protect children and heal families through best-practice programs and community collaboration.
All month visit Vortex Donuts for a Child Abuse Prevention Donut and information about Mountain CAC and how we offer hope, help, and healing to the most vulnerable children in our community.
Thank you to our premier sponsor Mission Health for their generous $10,000 donation to help our team bring prevention education and awareness to our community.
“We are so fortunate to live in a community that values our children and supports efforts toward making sure that every child has a happy, healthy, and thriving life every day.” Geoff Sidoli Executive Director.
