N.C. Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources to hold public meeting on coal ash risk for Asheville plant

WHAT: Public meeting on the draft proposed coal ash risk classification for Asheville Steam Electric Plant

WHEN: 6 p.m. March. 1

WHERE: AB Technical Community College Ferguson Auditorium, 340 Victoria Rd, Asheville, NC 28801

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality will hold a public meeting Tuesday to receive public comments on the draft proposed coal ash risk classification for Asheville Steam Electric Plant.

In accordance with the coal ash law, the facility has received a high-risk classification which is not subject to change.

The draft proposed coal ash risk classifications and related documents are available online at: http://deq.nc.gov/news/hot-topics/coal-ash-nc/draft-classifications

Printed copies of the draft proposed coal ash risk classification document may be reviewed at the Skyland/South Buncombe Library located at 260 Overlook Rd, Asheville, NC 28803.

Public comments on the draft permit modification should be mailed to: 1612 Mail Service Center., Raleigh, NC, 27699-1612, ATTN: Toby Vinson.

Public comments may also be submitted by email to: Ashevillecomments@ncdenr.gov.

The public comment period for the Asheville Steam Electric Plant risk classification ends April 18.
