Autumn may be upon us, but for the rest rest of the weekend, it looks like summer’s still holding sway. Temperatures around Western North Carolina are expected to approach record highs this afternoon, according to Ray’s Weather Center.
“Nothing about today says late September,” reports the local weather service website, with highs into the upper 80s from 12 p.m. onward. With few clouds in sight and only a slight northerly wind, sun-seekers would be wise to get out and take in summer’s last great hurrah.
Temperatures begin to cool down on Sunday, as a cold front brings a chance of rain and more seasonal weather to the Southern Appalachians throughout the day. The trend continues through early next week, with scattered showers and falling temperatures following a second cold front on Tuesday. Fall is expected to stake it’s claim from Wednesday onward, this temperatures slightly below average.
