Buncombe County continues to prioritize work toward reducing jail population and enhancing public safety in alignment with the Strategic Plan 2025. Since opening the Justice Resource Center, diversion programs have successfully diverted 644 cases, helped 761 people find employment, 445 people locate housing, 431 people secure transportation, and more. Through the Justice Resource Center, Buncombe County is proud to serve individuals who are directly and indirectly justice involved. Highly trained and skilled staff strive to meet the complex needs of individuals by offering assertive case management and seamless linkage to care with a goal of increasing public safety and reducing recidivism.
Justice Services is excited to share their data through an innovative programmatic reporting tool that provides a high-level overview about services delivered at the Justice Resource Center as well as referral and service delivery trends, enrollments, and program completion rates broken down by race, gender, and ethnicity.
“Providing services and resources to those impacted by the justice system is key to increasing public safety,” says Justice Services Director Tiffany Iheanacho. “An important part of our work is striving to reduce individual criminal justice involvement through addressing issues directly related to a person’s likelihood to re-offend and commit another crime. We use data to guide our decision making by assessing who we are serving, how we are serving, and how well we are doing. We are grateful to be able to share this information with the community.”
