As the comedy scene in Asheville continues to blossom a new comedy festival begins in two weeks. The Carolina Sketchfest focuses only on sketch comedy, not improv or stand up comedy. Some of the most successful sketch comedy shows and groups are Saturday Night Live, Monty Python, Chappelle’s Show, and Kids in the Hall.

ABOUT SKETCHFEST:

The Carolina Sketchfest (CSF) will occur twice a year with the next festival occurring in September 2013 when it will expand to a multi-day event featuring the best sketch comedy groups from around the United States and Canada.
Carolina Sketchfest is founded by Wyman Tannehill, a member of The Feral Chihuahuas sketch comedy group. Having performed with the Chihuahuas in comedy festivals across the country, he realized there was not a sketch comedy festival in the South. With Asheville as a hot destination, Wyman expects CSF to quickly establish itself as one of the most popular comedy events in the country.

CACKALACKA EDITION?:

Why is this March 23rd show titled “2013 Cackalacka Edition”? Cackalacka is a slang term for the the Carolinas, and with each group being from North Carolina this title is fitting. Future Sketchfests will be titled as different, funny “Editions”.

THE PERFORMERS:

This March 23rd Sketchfest will feature four sketch comedy groups performing a set of their best of/fan favorite sketches. Asheville’s two most popular sketch groups are sharing the stage with two groups from Greensboro who are making their Asheville debut.

The groups are…

The Feral Chihuahuas – Asheville’s longest-running sketch group is hosting the show, performing a fan favorite set, and will open the show performing a song as their 1990s fake boy band persona, The Douche Boys.

LYLAS – Asheville’s hilarious all-female group has existed nearly as long as the Chihuahuas with numerous shows that have brought them a huge fanbase. This is their only scheduled performance for 2013.

Thunderstood – This brilliant one-man sketch show hails from Greensboro, is unlike any other performance at the show, and has performed/won awards at comedy festivals across the country.

Mon Frere – Also from Greensboro, this group’s fans stretch across the Carolinas and they love pushing the boundaries of absurd and ridiculous to hysterical heights. Feral Chihuahuas fans will love their style.
