NPS hosts Blue Ridge Parkway hikes July 21, 22

From National Park Service:

Blue Ridge Parkway After Hours Hike
“Game On!”

(Asheville, NC) – Join Parkway rangers at 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 21st for an easy-to-moderate, 2 mile hike that is right in Asheville’s backyard. We’ll talk about game animals and answer questions like “How can so many deer live around our neighborhoods?” and “How did the turkey get his beard?” Come learn about how urban development and fragmentation impact wildlife and what to look for if you think you have game animals near you.

Meet at the dirt pull off at Milepost 389.5, just south of Hendersonville Road (Hwy 25). Wear long pants (against the poison ivy), good hiking shoes, bring some water, and be prepared for changeable weather.

Blue Ridge Parkway Hike of the Week
“Bridges Camp Gap Trail”

(Asheville, NC) – Join Parkway rangers at 10:00 am on Friday, July 22nd for a moderate, 2 mile roundtrip hike through a hardwood forest down to the scenic East Fork of the Pigeon River. We’ll talk about the water resources and how human influences affect the Parkway environment.

The hike will start at the Looking Glass Rock Overlook at Milepost 417. Bring water, wear good hiking shoes, and plan for changing weather.
