Over half a million North Carolinians enroll in or renew health coverage through the marketplace

Press release from Enroll America:

Today, Sorien Schmidt, North Carolina State Director for Enroll America released the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) announcement that 544,950 North Carolinians have enrolled or reenrolled in health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace:

“Today’s announcement shows what we’ve been seeing on the ground across the state: Consumers want quality, affordable health coverage and when they learn they have new options under the Affordable Care Act, they are eager to enroll. Thanks in part to our partners, we now know that hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians will ring in the new year with health coverage that allows them to get the care they need, including medications, emergency room visits, and free preventive care. While this represents great success, we know there is more work to be done to get folks enrolled by the January 31, 2016 enrollment deadline. We’ll continue working across North Carolina to educate the uninsured and make sure they have the resources they need to make an informed enrollment decision and protect themselves and their family with quality, affordable health coverage.”

The open enrollment period for the Health Insurance Marketplace lasts three months, from November 1 until January 31, 2016. During this time, North Carolinians are able to enter the Marketplace and select a plan that fits their needs and budget. Enrolling by January 31 will guarantee that consumers can spend 2016 with the peace of mind that comes from protecting themselves and their families with quality, affordable health insurance.
