As you probably know, our Astronomical Photographic Data Archive (APDA) at PARI has grown into an important internationally recognized program. In fact our Director, Thurburn Barker, will be speaking at ASTROPLATE 2014, an international conference in the Czech Republic next month. But with that growth and recognition comes the need for some specialized equipment to fully utilize the resources we have put in place in APDA.
To that end, our Science Director Dr. Michael Castelaz has initiated a group funding project on Indiegogo.com to raise the $60,000 necessary for us to acquire a scanner to more quickly and accurately scan plates for ongoing scientific research and education. The PARI Astronomy Legacy Project was launched last week to provide the opportunity for people interested in supporting our efforts to contribute. This funding effort replaces the kickstarter attempt from last year which fell short of the necessary goal.
