From a press release:
What is public art? Who makes it? Who does it benefit? Why should I care? What is PechaKucha?
Answer all of these questions on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., when PechaKucha Night returns to Asheville.
Wait….PechaKucha? Is that a word?!
PechaKucha means “chit-chat,”, and a PechaKucha Night is an opportunity for creative people to “chit-chat” with you, the audience, by sharing 20 images, each for 20 seconds. In over 700 cities around the world, PechaKucha Nights offer an evening for people to show and share their work in a relaxed way, in a space fit for thinking and drinking (yup…there’s beer too!).
That space is the entire 6th floor of the BB&T building in downtown Asheville, that evening is Nov. 14, that work is all about public art, and those people are local artists, critics, architects, film-makers, and students.
Yes…you read correctly. The BB&T building. That big polarizing tower of steel and glass rests in the hands of Asheville’s creative community on Nov. 14, and we’ll be using the entire 6th floor for PechaKucha Night.
And yes, there will be adult beverages and a long intermission so that you may mingle…perhaps even chit-chat…with both the presenters and your fellow attendees. At PechaKucha Night, this is the most important part, so that at the end of the night, the work and ideas make their way down those six floors and back into the community.
So….what now?
Now, go to http://pkn.eventbrite.com to reserve your ticket. They’re only $5! If you decide to wait, they’ll be $8 at the door.
We’re expecting quite a crowd, so make sure to get your tickets and be ready when doors open at 7 p.m..
If you have any questions at all, email talk@pechakuchaavl.org. We’ll be happy to chat.
See you Friday, November 14th!
