Press release
From People for Clean Mountains:
Brevard, NC, February 11, 2014: Solar energy experts will provide details on the emerging options for developing clean energy, energy efficiency and sustainable development for Transylvania County residents, officials and businesses during a presentation at 6:30 PM on Feb. 19 at the Transylvania County Library’s Rogow Room.
Richard Banker, president of Renewable Energy Results, LLC, will discuss the opportunities for commercial scale solar energy investments and Ned Ryan Doyle, Project Coordinator for the Carolina Community Energy Partnerships project, will discuss the opportunities for residential and small business scale clean energy investments.
Employment in North Carolina’s clean-energy companies grew 20 percent in 2013 according to the N.C. Sustainable Energy Association.
In a Jan 10 report, NPD Solarbuzz, a solar energy market research and analysis firm, ranked North Carolina as the second-highest US state in terms of solar capacity for 2014, up from fifth in 2013. California ranked first.
“Clean energy is the future for Transylvania County. Photovoltaic solar energy systems can be installed easily and affordably right here,” says Banker. He adds that solar power “is growing at a phenomenal pace offering significantly reduced costs for residential, commercial and utility scale use.”Banker’s track record includes managing more than 60 commercial solar and wind energy projects exceeding over 550 MW of installed and operation systems, including hands-on field supervision.
Doyle has hosted “Our Southern Community” radio program for 15 years covering energy, environment and economics across the region.
“Community and county level initiatives for clean energy and energy efficiency are emerging rapidly in Western North Carolina, each with their own tailored goals, objectives and structures. It’s a win – win situation, for the economy, job creation and for the environment,” Doyle said.
Doyle added, “Roof top solar for homeowners and small businesses is an excellent investment today. Whether electric generation or thermal hot water systems, using the free energy from the sun makes sense in savings and investing. And the first step to the most savings and best investment is energy efficiency – it’s all connected.”
Doyle is offering a similar presentation at 6:30 PM, Mon., Feb. 17 at Biz611, 611 N. Church St, Hendersonville.
People for Clean Mountains (PCM) is sponsoring the Brevard event. PCM representatives will also provide an update on a range of new efforts they have initiated in the county, including recycling, composting and more.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free event, with an open Q&A session after the presentations plus opportunities to get involved in sustainable initiatives in Transylvania County.
