Press release from People’s Recovery Initiative for Solutions & More (PRISM)

ASHEVILLE, NC (June 14, 2022) – Residents and substance use recovery professionals in Western North Carolina will have the opportunity to participate in a special 2-day event that addresses addiction, substance use resources, recovery and support at the Western NC Ag Center in Fletcher on Tuesday, June 21 and Wednesday, June 22. The summit includes a full day of panel discussions, presentations and solutions providers on Wednesday June 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; addressing topics of interest to veterans, parents, minorities, those reentering society, and individuals confronting various aspects of substance use disorder and addiction issues.

On Tuesday, the event begins with a free evening of encouragement and inspiration in a family-oriented environment. The Community Kickoff Festival includes a KidsZone with inflatable attractions, live music, food trucks, free snow cones, inspirational speakers and entertainment from 6p.m. to 8p.m. This is an ideal activity that allows for families to get substance use disorder and addiction information they need, during a relaxed, judgment-free program with activities for the entire family.

The People’s Empowerment & Services Summit event is produced by PRISM (People’s Recovery Initiative for Solutions & More) a Raleigh-based 501 (c) (3) non-profit that partners with leading organizations to develop events and programming that provides awareness, education and support to those affected in any way by substance use disorders and addictions. CEU credits are available for health care provider professionals. Participating partners in the Asheville area summit include Sunrise Community for Recovery & Wellness, and Eleanor Health Foundation, along with Dogwood Health Trust, VAYA Health, Appalachian Community Services and The SHARE Project.

PRISM Chairperson Marilyn Shannon comments, “We can’t wait to share these messages of support, information and resources with residents in the Asheville area and Western North Carolina. We’re thankful for all of our local speakers and our sponsoring partners who are making this possible, and look forward to two days that can be life-changing for our attendees. Shannon continues, “The issues of substance use disorder and addictions are multi-faceted and affect people in so many different ways. We’re proud to provide information that can touch on such critical topics as harm reduction, re-entry into society, tips and resources for parents and family members, as well as equity issues facing members of our minority communities.

We hope the inclusion of our community kickoff on Tuesday evening will provide a family-oriented event where children can have fun and adults can get access to valuable information.” With over two dozen speakers and presenters, The People’s Empowerment & Services Summit is designed to meet everyday people and those who provide care at their specific areas of need, in terms of substance use disorder and addiction issues. In additional to valuable information, the summit will include the participation of some of the area’s leading food trucks. Tuesday includes Ciao Y’all Cast Iron Italian, and on Wednesday attendees can dine with Appalachian Smoke, Blessed Soul Food and Howdy Homemade Ice Cream.

Visit PrismTeam.org for more information about the event, and to purchase a ticket for Wednesday’s program. PRISM utilizes a “Name Your Price” model for its events. $40 is the suggested investment for The People’s Empowerment & Services Summit, which also includes access to the 2022 PRISM Resource Portal and recordings of every PRISM event throughout the year
