Planning Board work session taking place Feb. 19 to review proposed short-term rental text amendments

As part of the text amendment process, the Buncombe County Planning Board is holding two work sessions in February to review data and reports around proposed text amendments to Buncombe County’s development ordinance related to short-term rentals. The next work session takes place Monday, Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at 200 College St. Due to limited seating, community members are encouraged to watch the live stream at engage.buncombecounty.org. The Planning Board voted to hear limited public comment for this meeting.

Purpose of Planning Board
The Planning Board is a legislative board tasked with making recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. The Planning Board has no authority to enact ordinances but does forward recommendations on ordinance language to the Board of Commissioners. Only the Board of Commissioners can approve ordinances that create or change law.

Purpose of work sessions
The primary purpose of the work sessions will be data and text amendment language evaluation and review. No decisions or recommendations will be made at the work sessions.

Next steps
The Board may decide to schedule additional work sessions or public meetings for input.
