Announcement from UNC Asheville:
Jim Lenburg will present President Xi’s Dream and Chinese Reality, at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, in the concluding talk of the World Affairs Council spring series at UNC Asheville. Lenburg’s talk will take place at the Reuter Center, home of OLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville.
China, with its military power and economic influence in Asia and beyond, has long been a concern of American policy-makers including the Obama Administration. Jim Lenburg, a long-time observer of China, will discuss the evolving nature of U.S.-China relations over several decades and outline some of the questions and issues that will face the next U.S. administration.
Lenburg, professor of history emeritus at Mars Hill University, has taught several courses on China and its centrality to Asian and world history. He has led several study groups to China, including one that coincided with the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989. Lenburg also serves as an instructor in the College for Seniors program at OLLI, which co-sponsors the World Affairs Council talks along with the council and UNC Asheville’s Department of Political Science.
Admission to the World Affairs Council talks at OLLI is $10; council members and UNC Asheville students are admitted without charge. The World Affairs Council talks will resume at UNC Asheville in September.
