Registration opens June 1 for 2015 Beer City Cup

Registration for the 2015 Beer City Cup — the largest independent sanctioned adult soccer tournament in the country — will open on Monday, June 1. The tournament itself will take place on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6. The application fee is $450 in June but goes up to $550 in July.

The tournament is expanding this year to 84 teams with 8 divisions: Men’s Open, CoEd Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Over 30, CoEd Over 30, Men’s Over 40, Men’s Over 50 and Men’s Over 55. Cash prizes break down from $375 to $500 for finalists and $1,000 to $2,000 for the champions.

Last year’s tournament was sold out with 76 teams from 8 States. Organizers say they’ve received interest for this year’s event from Milwaukee, WI; Dayton, OH; Miami, FL; and even as far away as Ontario, Canada.

The tournament was born in 2010, when the Asheville-Buncombe Adult Soccer Association’s (ABASA) all-volunteer board decided to transform the now defunct Blue Ridge Cup into the Beer City Cup after Asheville’s 2nd crown as “Beer City, USA.”
