Saluda Lifestyles opposes outdoor shooting range and training facility

Press release from Saluda Lifestyles:

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners has placed a contract on the property at 2823 Macedonia Road (which also borders NC Gamelands) for the purpose of constructing a training center for officers in Henderson County and possibly from all over NC. And, also construction of an outdoor shooting range. This decision appears to be on a fast track and the location is the third attempt to locate this center and range. There has been much opposition at each location.

There are many concerns the residents on Macedonia Road are expressing, not the least of which is traffic on a gravel road, noise pollution, and damage to our natural resources.

How Could This Impact A Way of Life in Saluda?

  • Destroy the peace and tranquility of this community; damage the environment, wildlife, soil and water (studies are prevalent online which detail the damaging effects of lead toxins and noise to the environment, wildlife and humans).
  • Create a negative economic impact to businesses in Saluda.
  • Be in direct conflict with the mission of the NC Wildlife Gamelands and in conflict with the Mission Statement of the Henderson County Board of Commissioners (to protect life and property, etc.)
  • Will change the way of life and culture as we know it forever; the slow-paced, historical town of Saluda that promotes its natural assets; the Green River Gorge, its rivers, waterfalls, and mountain vistas. (not just Macedonia Road).
  • Noise effects will be ongoing and will impact wildlife and humans. Residents and businesses for miles will be able to hear the shooting range. It will obstruct the peacefulness and pleasures of the sounds of waterfalls, rushing water on the Green River, scare you as you fly down on the zipline over the Gorge with its old-growth forest, disturb your hike on the Gamelands’ trails, or as you are relaxing on your front porch. Research is clear on the damage that noise from shooting ranges has on animals, birds, and humans.
  • Change hunting, fishing, and kayaking which are a way of life in this neighborhood and throughout Saluda.

There are many questions to ask Henderson County officials. This could happen to any community in Saluda so here’s how you can help prevent this from happening now:

Please call and contact county manager and each of the county commissioners to protest before April 18.

Sad situation. Maybe voters should look at the local officials and realize that 95%vote just like them (GOP).But when asked about this issue it’s not a partisan thing yet their about to ruin a beautiful place on Earth that can’t be replaced. Think about it bang bang for a couple years until we get the locals to sell off then close the range ,just to get the land real cheap then turn a huge profit in bout 7 years. Keep voting GOP. It seems to be working ( For a Few)
