Sarah Banks named Asheville City Schools’ Interim Finance Director

Sarah Banks has been selected as the Interim Finance Director of Asheville City Schools. She currently serves as the district’s Assistant Finance Director.

Banks began her career in 2010 as a Payroll Specialist for Buncombe County Schools before joining Asheville City Schools in 2012 as an Accounting Specialists. As an Accounting Specialist, she processed purchase orders and check requests, reviewed school financial reports including bank reconciliations as well as audited school financial records and assessed implementations of auditor recommendations.

Banks was named Asheville City Schools’ Budget Analyst in July 2013.

She served as the district’s Budget Analyst for three years before being promoted to the role of Assistant Finance Officer in July 2016. In collaboration with the former Executive Director of Finance, Banks has assisted with the preparation, monitoring and administration of the school system’s annual budget which exceeded $60,000,000 for fiscal years 2017, 2018 and 2019. She has also interpreted state laws, implemented the school budget, monitored the status of allotted budget balances to guard against the overspending of budgeted accounts as well as prepared budget amendments/journal vouchers.

Banks will be replacing Charlotte Sullivan who retired in March 2019.

Banks holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University and is an active member of the North Carolina Association of School Business Officials.

“I look forward to my continued collaboration with the Asheville City Schools Finance Department as we close out the 2018-2019 Fiscal Year,” said Banks.
