Sarge’s Animal Rescue accepting submissions for annual pet photo contest

Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation

Pick out your favorite photo or take some new ones of your best pals, your pets.

Sarge’s is now accepting photos for its 9th Annual Pet Photo Contest. Entry forms are available at sargeandfriends.org; Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery, 102 N. Main Street in Waynesville; Sarge’s Adoption Center at 256 Industrial Park Drive in Waynesville; Mountain Dreams Realty, in Market Square, 3457 Soco Road, Maggie Valley. They can also be found at Country Lane Animal Hospital in Clyde, Canton Animal Hospital, and in Waynesville, Balsam Animal Hospital, Maple Tree Animal Hospital, Junaluska Animal Hospital and The Animal Hospital of Waynesville.

Deadline for all entries is Friday, February 27. Categories are Dog, Cat, Puppy, Kitten, Photographers under the age of 12, Sarge Rescue, Other Pet (pet other than a dog or cat), and Super Shooters (photographers who have previously won 1st place in any category). There will be a special prize for photo judged Best In Show.

“The photo contest is such fun to work on,” said Brenn Rohman, co-chairperson. “We love seeing the new entries arrive and the creative captions the photographers choose.”

Photos must be the original work of an amateur photographer. Size should range from 4×6 to 8×10 inches. Please do not frame or mat the photos. Photos, entry forms and a $10.00 fee per photo should be mailed to Sarge’s Adoption headquarters at P.O Box 854; Waynesville, NC, 28786 or delivered to the Adoption Center from 10:am-3:00pm Monday-Thursday and Saturday. For directions, please call 828-246-9050. More than one photo can be submitted but a completed entry form and $10 fee must accompany each photo.

Electronic submissions or electronically altered photos will not be accepted. Photos cannot be returned. Beth Brown of Beth Brown Photography will be joining Ellen Schattie, owner of Bocelli’s Italian Eatery, to judge the entries. “When judging the photos for Sarge’s Pet Photo Contest, we look for how creative the photographer was in capturing the unique and often fun or crazy qualities of the pet. We also look for originality in composition of the image and quality in the final print.” said Brown.

1st Place winners will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to Bocelli’s Italian Eatery, a certificate indicating 1st Place winner and pet- related gifts in a specially hand-crafted tote bag. 2nd Place winners will receive a $15.00 gift certificate and a certificate of merit for 2nd place.

The Best in Show winner will receive a $50.00 gift certificate from Bocelli’s, a free photo sitting at Brown’s and pet- related gifts.

“We hope that our Under 12 category receives lots of entries,” said Cynthia Morris, co-chairperson. “Seeing the kids’ excitement at the awards ceremony is priceless.”
