Screen Artists Co-op hosts open house on May 14

From press release:
Asheville, N.C. – “Get started. Get better. Get work.”

That’s the Screen Artists Co-op’s slogan as the group gears up for
another series of classes and workshops for actors interested in working
in the film and television industry. The group will host an open house
on May 14, 6 – 9 p.m. at its studio, located at 2002 Riverside Dr.,
Suite 42-P, in Asheville. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn
about the organization’s fully immersive training programs and hear from
SAC members and mentors about their own secrets to working in the
industry.

Among SAC’s recent successes is Karsten Friske, 14, selected by Sprint
after a nationwide search to appear as Zack in the wireless company’s
latest “Framily” ad campaign. Friske, who is homeschooled and recently
moved from Asheville to Kingsport, Tennessee, because of his father’s
job, has taken acting classes from SAC since January.

In the last few months, a number of SAC actors from Western North
Carolina have either been cast or filmed in movie and television
projects taking place in the region, including:

*        Kai Schmoll and Rebecca Morris, appearing in Lifetime’s Drop
Dead Diva (http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/drop-dead-diva). Schmoll also
appears opposite Robert Redford and Nick Nolte in the upcoming film A
Walk in the Woods (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1178665/).

*        Matt Burke and Emily Shaules, appearing in Lifetime’s Devious
Maids (http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/devious-maids). Burke also
appears in AMC’s Halt & Catch Fire
(http://www.amctv.com/shows/halt-and-catch-fire).

*        Stephanie Morgan, appearing in WGN’s Salem
(http://wgnamerica.com).

*        Adam Copeland, a series regular in SyFy’s Haven
(http://www.syfy.com/haven/cast/dwight).

*        Lindsay Ayliffe, appearing in Cinemax’s Banshee
(http://www.cinemax.com/banshee/), ABC’s Nashville
(http://abc.go.com/shows/nashville), NBC’s Revolution
(www.nbc.com/revolution), and in the upcoming film Dumb and Dumber To
with Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2096672/).

According to founder and mentor Jon Menick, Screen Artists Co-op has
established a formula for success: classes that differentiate its
actors, industry leading headshot and audition taping services that have
been praised by Emmy Award-inning casting directors, and a licensed
talent agency that is able to open the door to work in film and
television.

“The beauty of this full immersion concept is that it frees the actor to
concentrate on what is most important — becoming a better actor,” says
Menick, who pulled from his 40-year experience as a professional actor
in LA and former 80s commercial icon as the foundation for SAC. “There’s
no anxiety here because they are part of a team that is focused on
building and maintaining a successful career.

“SAC strives to understand how to best facilitate each actor at every
stage of their career. We’re looking for actors who want this and are
willing to do their part, because we will certainly do ours.”
