Second annual Ramble Run 12K/5K set for May 12, programs offered to help beginners

The Asheville Track Club (ATC) announces that registration is now open for The RAMBLE RUN AT BILTMORE PARK 12K and 5K Presented by: Mission Sports Medicine. The run benefits the WNC Foundation Women’s Fund. The second annual edition of the Ramble Run at Biltmore Park will be held on May 12, 2012. Last year’s Ramble Run was a huge hit with well over 1000 runners and became one of the favorite races of this racing season. Register at: www.AshevilleTrackClub.org.

Ramble Run the First of the ATC Triple Crown Series

The Ramble Run is the first in the ATC Triple Crown Series for 2012 where you can register for all three ATC races – The Ramble Run at Biltmore Park (May 12), the 33rd Bele Chere 5K (July 28) and the Thomas Wolfe 8K (October 20) – at one time and for a reduced rate. The cost is $70 for the package that includes the Ramble Run 12K and $60 for the package that includes the Ramble Run 5K. Runners can save up to $48 and invaluable time by registering for all 3 races at one time. The first 100 registrants receive a free Asheville Track Club logo shirt.

Ramble Run offers 12-week “Couch to 5K “ Beginners Running ‘Program

The Beginning Runners Program (BRP) is one of ATC’s most important community outreach efforts. This year ATC offers a new BRP session to train runners for the 2nd annual Ramble Run 5K at Biltmore Park, sponsored by Mission Sports Medicine, and open to the public in addition to Mission Health System staff. The BRP starts February 21 and continues Tuesdays and Thursdays (6 to 6:30 p.m.) and Saturdays (10 a.m.) until The Ramble 5K on May 12. The group will meet at the new Sherrill Center on the UNCA campus and will use the UNCA track or inside track when it rains

The Beginning Runners Program is a 12-week program for those who’ve never run before, from preteens to senior citizens. This “Couch to 5K” running program is also suitable for anyone who wishes to return to running following an injury or time away from the sport. The goal for BRP participants is to show to begin and enjoy running for health and fitness. Cost is $25. Contact Head Coach Tom Kingsbury at 665-7526 or, email burytom@charter.net
