Shannon Baggett named ACS Principal of the Year

Asheville City Schools is proud to announce that Shannon Baggett, Principal of Montford North Star Academy (MNSA), has been named Principal of the Year for her exemplary leadership and ongoing commitment to Asheville City Schools. With an impressive career spanning over two decades within the Asheville City Schools family, Shannon’s dedication to students, faculty, and the community has earned her this prestigious recognition.

Shannon Baggett’s journey in Asheville City Schools began in 2001 when she joined the ACS family as an Earth Science teacher at Asheville High School (AHS). Her passion for teaching and fostering an environment of curiosity and learning quickly set her on a remarkable trajectory.

Recognizing her talent for seamlessly integrating technology and her unwavering dedication to crafting innovative learning experiences, Shannon transitioned into the role of Lead Teacher and Digital Learning Coach for the School of Inquiry and Life Sciences (SILSA). By implementing core principles of Rigor, Relationships, and Relevance, her contributions in this position established a robust foundation that continues to drive SILSA’s success to this day.

In 2013, Shannon Baggett’s commitment to educational excellence led her to accept the role of Assistant Principal at Lucy S. Herring Elementary School. In this position, she further honed her leadership skills and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the well-being and academic success of all students.

Shannon’s remarkable journey reached a significant milestone in 2017 when she assumed the role of Principal at Montford North Star Academy (MNSA), becoming its first principal. Leveraging her prior experience in launching SILSA, she played a pivotal role in establishing ACS’s newest middle school and setting it on a path to success. Throughout her tenure as principal, Shannon’s leadership has been defined by unwavering dedication, innovative approaches, and a profound commitment to fostering a nurturing and empowering learning environment for the students and staff at MNSA. Under her guidance, the school has flourished, with students consistently showcasing exceptional academic and personal growth.
