Ever wondered what a Balkan-soul-Gypsy-funk band might sound like? “Fiery balkan brass, throbbing funk grooves, Gypsy accordion wizardry and virtuosos chops,” is what the press release for Slavic Soul party promises. “SSP! has created an acoustic mash-up … weaving the gospel, techno, funk, dub, jazz, and Latin influences of New York’s neighborhoods seamlessly into a Balkan brass setting.” That band, based in new York, makes its way to The Toy Boat Community Art Space on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Runaway Circus opens the 8 p.m. show.
