Press release from District Attorney Todd M. Williams:
After thoughtful consideration, I announce my preference to pursue opportunities outside of this Office at the conclusion of my current term as the elected District Attorney (D.A.] for the 40th Prosecutorial District. The term will expire on December 31, 2026.
I invite qualified lawyers to consider candidacies to serve in this role. It is my hope that individuals with diverse legal backgrounds and significant experience in the profession will step forward.
It is essential that candidates for chief prosecutor commit to: the ethical prosecution of cases, guided by the evidence; the exercise of impartial, case-specific discretion; and the defense of prosecutorial independence. Candidates for D.A. must exhibit a balanced and independent perspective, ensuring that their decisions would not be unduly influenced by any individual or
special interest, law enforcement agency, defense counsel, or political agenda. As always, I am grateful to this Office’s dedicated staff for their unwavering assistance and diligent service on penal of victims and justice. My top priority is to ensure the continued delivery of essential services and the ethical and effective prosecution of criminal matters in this County. I will make a final decision about my continued service as D.A. closer to the candidate filing deadline, after reviewing the qualifications and visions of all who may step forward to serve. I am committed to upholding the integrity of this Office and to serve the interests of justice in our community.
My service as D.A. continues to be the greatest professional honor and distinction of my career and I plan to continue in service at least until the expiration of this term.
Respectfully,
Todd M. Williams
District Attorney
