From a press release:

The Omega Middle School students at Rainbow Community School would like to invite the community to participate in our Strive Not to Drive event on May 18 from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. We will be celebrating the efforts of students, families and community members who choose to walk or commute by bike, carpool or public transit. Please stop by our school at 574 Haywood Road for treats, community and celebration! Our delightfully delicious commuter station will include coffee from Firestorm Books and Cafe, breakfast snacks from both West End Bakery and West Village Market, a bike tuneup by Asheville Street and Dirt, and coupons for free biscuits from Biscuit Head.

Strive Not to DriveRainbow Community School will be tracking how many students, teachers and staff commute to school relying solely on their bodies and community infrastructure. We already have a strong collection of bike riders, walkers and carpoolers and are looking to increase our numbers. As Rainbow students, we value Strive Not To Drive week as an opportunity to educate ourselves and our community on the environmental and health benefits of leaving that good old car in the driveway as much as possible.

We are encouraging students and staff who live too far from the school to find a safe parking spot and enjoy a five-minute walk to school. We hope to see you here!
