Hendersonville Water and Sewer reported Friday that 2,800 gallons of wastewater spilled into Clear Creek Thursday after contractors hit a sewer line under Nix Road near the Clear Creek Landing subdivision, the Hendersonville Times-News reported.
Crews from John D. Stevens Inc. were working on the Wolfpen Sewer Interceptor Thursday, laying steel casing under Nix Road for new gravity lines, when they accidentally hit the force main, according to City Utilities Director Lee Smith.
The intrusion damaged a 2-inch pressure sewer main causing 2,800 gallons of wastewater to spill onto one side of Nix Road near Clear Creek. The size of the leak and Thursday’s heavy rains, which threatened containment, prompted city officials to contact the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, as required by state law.
