Press release from Mountain Area Health Education Center:
MAHEC and UNC Asheville are hosting a walk-in COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine clinic this Saturday, May 22, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center located at 1 Campus View Road. No appointment is needed for this first-dose Pfizer clinic.
Last week, the CDC recommended expanding the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in adolescents 12 and older after reviewing safety and efficacy data from direct studies and bridging studies for this population.
“We know teens are looking forward to spending time with their friends and family this summer,” shares MAHEC school health program administrator April Baur, RN. “Getting vaccinated is going to make that so much easier and safer. We’re thrilled to help teens and families kick off summer with a little extra peace of mind.”
Anyone 12 or older who needs a COVID-19 vaccine is welcome at Saturday’s clinic. Individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The Pfizer vaccine may produce temporary reactions like a sore arm and feeling tired or achy for a day or two, but most symptoms can be alleviated with over-the-counter medications. COVID-19, on the other hand, can lead to severe illness, hospitalization and even death.
