Press release from The Meditation Center:
The Mediation Center is offering free community mediation services to WNC residents who are experiencing Helene Recovery-related conflict. Community mediation can help in cases of neighborhood conflict, roommate/family conflict, landlord/tenant conflict, and in cases where a group like a business, faith group, or organization needs support navigating conflict or making plans to move ahead. Mediation is non-judgmental, voluntary, confidential, and free.
“In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene, our community came together to meet urgent needs. During the next phase of recovery, studies have shown that individuals, families, and groups often experience disillusionment and increased stress as energy and resources wane and the responsibilities and rhythms of everyday life resume. That’s where The Mediation Center sees an opportunity to support recovery,” said Executive Director Laura Jeffords.
Mediation provides an opportunity for individuals or groups in conflict to find a path forward with the help of trained, neutral third-party mediators. In mediation, participating parties sit together with mediators. The mediators listen, ask questions, and work to understand the situation, and then walk participants through the process of resolving conflict and making plans to move ahead.
“We at The Mediation Center believe that the people in mediation know what is best for their lives, and support participants in crafting their own solutions,” said program coordinator, Todd Lester.
