The Prom Dress Exchange March 28-30 at Groce UMC

Press release from Groce UMC:

The fourth annual The Prom Dress Exchange is setting up for a joyful and impactful weekend March 28–30 at Groce United Methodist Church in Asheville, NC. The event provides more than 1,800 free formal and professional outfits to students and community members preparing for prom, spring dances, job interviews, and other important milestones. With dresses ranging in size from 00 to 4XL, as well as tuxedos, men’s suits, shoes, and accessories, the event ensures that everyone—regardless of financial background—can find something that makes them feel confident and celebrated.

A standout feature of The Prom Dress Exchange is the availability of on-site alterations, which allows attendees to leave with clothing that fits them perfectly. This crucial service helps eliminate common barriers to formalwear access and gives students and community members a sense of dignity and inclusion. Volunteers from across the community help with everything from welcoming guests to styling and fitting, all contributing to a warm, empowering atmosphere.

To continue this important work, organizers are now seeking volunteer sewists to assist with this and future events, especially during peak prom season. Monetary contributions are also needed to provide modest financial stipends for sewing professionals who generously donate their time and talent. In addition, the event’s shoe drive fundraiser remains ongoing—gently used shoes collected will help support next year’s exchange.
