Tranzmission will host Stonewall Commemoration Week

Tranzmission will host the Stonewall Commemoration Week events from June 23 through 27. The Stonewall riots, a queer rights movement which began after a police raid at the Stonewall Inn located in New York City, took place on June 28, 1969. Tranzmission is an organization “dedicated to making the lives of transgender, gender variant, non-binary and genderqueer individuals healthier, happier and safer through education, advocacy and support.” Events held by Tranzmission will include a Documentary on Stonewall, an ice cream social, a pool party, yoga, an adult cocktail hour and more.

Tranzmission is proud to announce this year’s Stonewall Commemoration
Week events, running from June 23rd to June 27th. The Stonewall riots marked
the kickoff of the modern day queer rights movement and were primarily initiated
by trans feminine people of color, who have often been ignored or left behind by
the mainstream gay rights movement.
For 15 years, Tranzmission has been dedicated to making the lives of
transgender, gender variant, non-binary and genderqueer individuals healthier,
happier and safer through education, advocacy and support.
Schedule of Events:
• Tuesday June 23rd, Tranzmission will host a showing of the 2010
documentary Stonewall Uprising at the Kairos West Community Center,
located at 742 Haywood Road, Asheville NC 28806, at 7:00 pm.
Admission to benefit the Tranzmission Homeless Network will be accepted
on a $0 – $5 sliding scale at the door. A group discussion will follow.
• Friday June 26th, Blue Ridge Pride presents The White Party, a dance
celebration featuring the Kings and Queens drag group at O’Henry’s,
located at 237 Haywood St, Asheville NC 28801, at 10:00 pm. Donations
to benefit the Loving Food Resources of Asheville will be accepted.
• Saturday June 27th, Tranzmission will host an ice cream social with
donations to benefit Youth Outright, at Montford Park at 3:00 pm.
• Saturday June 27th, LGBTQJew: Celebrate Pride Poolside, a pool party at
the JCC, located at 236 Charlotte St, Asheville NC 28801, from 7:00 pm to
9:00 pm. Admission is free.
• Saturday June 27th, Adult Cocktail Hour at O’Henry’s, located at 237
Haywood St, Asheville NC 28801, from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Admission
$7 – $25 sliding scale, stay for the Stonewall Commemoration Day
Celebration, included in your entry cost.
• Saturday June 27th, Stonewall Commemoration Day Celebration, 10:30
pm, at O’Henry’s, located at 237 Haywood St, Asheville, NC 28801.
Admission $7 – $25 sliding scale. Featuring a live performance by folk
punk songstress Brynn Estelle and Her Band, as well as the hip hop
stylings of Royal Skyyy. Music to be followed by drag, burlesque and
performance art with Princess Perfect, Maxwell Hung, Sister Erma God,
Dirty Grits, Princess SlutFistYeah! and the Pizza Wi✝ch. Dance party to
follow with DJ Abu Disarray and friends. Proceeds benefit Tranzmission,
the Tranzmission Prison Project and Justice for Tamiko Ambrose Fund.
• Sunday June 28th, Yoga for Trans and Queer Bodies, 2:00 pm, at The
Little Volcano Yoga Studio located at 62 Wall Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
