The Tribune Papers say the city of Asheville is hiding behind closed-meeting law to avoid disclosing documents requested by the Tribune Papers relating to the city’s takeover of Pack Place and the December sale of naming rights to a corner of Pack Place to the State Employees Credit Union.
The Tribune made its requests in letters sent by certified mail on January 6…On January 15, the Tribune received an e-mail, not from Burleson but from Brian Postelle at the city’s Office of Communication and Public Engagement, acknowledging the Tribune’s request and was processing it. A week later, on January 22, Postelle [in effect said that] the city invoked the statute that makes proceedings of closed meetings confidential.
