Press release from Asheville Police Department:
The driver of a pickup truck tried several times to run over a man on the side of the road, but instead hit his cart containing his belongings and his cat. Thankfully both the man and the cat were not hurt. This happened at 4:54 p.m. on May 17 at the exit 44 off-ramp of I40E.
The driver is described as a white man, 30-40 years old, wearing a light-colored t-shirt, and ball cap. He was operating a white Ford F-150 with North Carolina license plate RCL-8595.

First, Thank you to the person who stopped to film this outrageous action.
It is hard to watch this, and it is scary knowing that people like the driver of this truck live in our communities. What is happening to some of the people in our society these days?
I just find it so hard to believe that someone would do something like this!
Violence is becoming a way of dealing with everything these days. Lying is becoming acceptable by many people including those elected to public office. Even when those telling the lie can be proven to be lying, they continue on with their deception . As a recent example, Rep. Andrew Clyde R-Ga, said the House floor was not breached and that the supporters of former President Donald Trump who stormed the Capitol behaved “in an orderly fashion.” Even though photographs show him helping to barricade the door against the mob of people trying to break in. Even though we all saw the videos of those same people breaking windows and clubbing police officers with American flag poles!

His words denying what we all saw happen make him look foolish. How can he not feel embarrassment? When a person has been proven to be lying yet continues to stick to his story, one has to question the character of that person.
That is just one of many examples. It is sad to see that many, most often those in the republican party these days, are so willing to believe in and say things that are so obviously not true. What caused them to become like this? Telling others that we cannot believe what we see with our own eyes or hear with our own ears creates confusion and fear among the public. This is how Hitler convinced the German people to fall in line with his big lie. Many of them did so even while knowing it was a lie, turning against one another out of the fear and confusion he caused. We cannot let this happen to us.
Is this the way we want our children to be taught? Do we want to set an example for them that it is OK to tell lies? That it is OK to use violence to settle disputes?
It is not OK to take your anger or fears out on someone else.
I do not like to be pessimistic but sometimes it appears to me that humans have outlived their usefulness on this planet. They have lost their way, their sense of purpose, lost their connections to other people and to the planet that sustains them. They have become selfish, impatient and self-centered. It should be obvious to all that we cannot continue this way. We should always try to put ourselves in another’s shoes, try to see things from their point of view before we act. Try to treat others the way we want to be treated. Show each other kindness and compassion. Because if we continue to follow down the dark path some have started on we will only end up in self-destruction.
I hope the driver of this truck is found and someone is able to show him the errors of his actions.
