From UNC Asheville:
College for Seniors Summer Course Catalog Now Available; Online and In-Person Registration Opens May 24 at UNC Asheville’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
The summer 2016 course catalog for the College for Seniors at UNC Asheville’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), is now available online. Paper copies are also available at the Reuter Center on the UNC Asheville campus. Online and in-person registration will open on May 24.
OLLI’s College for Seniors – a community of learners and teachers – offers courses ranging from hobbies and skills to arts and culture, with courses also offering serious academic exploration in a variety of topics. There are no tests, grades or credits. Most classes meet at the Reuter Center on UNC Asheville’s campus.
Among the 75 courses offered this summer will be The Music of the Civil War, taught by local musician, writer and Grammy Award-winner Bruce Nemerov. Larry Griswold, who had a long career with Sports Illustrated, offers an Olympic Games preview with a course called The Road to Rio: Summer Olympics from 1896-2012, and OLLI Executive Director Catherine Frank will teach a literature course on Frankenstein and Dracula.
The College for Seniors also will offer two Tuesday afternoon health and fitness courses – Restorative Yoga and Women Training for Health – at the Woodfin YMCA this summer. Discounted fees for YMCA members are available for those courses.
Summer classes will be held weekly for six weeks, beginning June 20. A new special summer OLLI membership is available for $30. The summer term course fee is $75 for an unlimited number of courses.
The summer course catalog is available online at olliasheville.com. For OLLI membership information and registration, visit olliasheville.com/membership or call Herb Gunn at 251-6873.
