Press release from UNC Asheville:

The new course catalog is available and online course registration is open for the fall 2018 term of College for Seniors at UNC Asheville’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), at the website olliasheville.com. Paper copies of the catalog also are available at the Reuter Center on the UNC Asheville campus, and in-person assistance with registration is also available.

The College for Seniors fall term runs from Sept. 17 to Nov. 9 and presents the opportunity to learn from passionate, expert teachers as part of a community that teaches and learns just for the fun of it. There are no tests, grades or credits. Most classes meet at the Reuter Center on UNC Asheville’s campus; dates, times and locations are listed at olliasheville.com.

OLLI’s College for Seniors has morning and afternoon classes five days a week, on health and fitness, hobbies and skills, arts and culture, history, technology and more.

Barbecue, genealogy, climate change and French are just a few of the offerings on Mondays. Tuesday morning’s choices include three different history topics, with piano instruction and literature at midday, and two different yoga classes among the many afternoon classes. The rest of the week offers many more topics, from the geology of North Carolina and the Appalachian culture sampler, to courses on Virginia Woolf, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and Walt Whitman, as well as iPhone photography and best travel apps.

A $25 OLLI membership fee is required to register for the College for Seniors, and the fall term course fee is $115 for an unlimited number of courses. Some scholarships are available; the deadline to request a scholarship is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Parking permits, which are good through July 31, 2019, will be available for $125.

The fall course catalog is available online at olliasheville.com. For more information, call OLLI Director Catherine Frank at 828-251-6188.
