Press release from UNC Asheville:
The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday, February 14 that it has elected UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone to its Board of Directors.
“I am honored to be selected to serve the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and to join a distinguished group of fellow directors,” said Cone. “To be asked to help recognize the many distinguished athletes in a state I have called home for almost twenty years is a humbling experience.”

On a national level, Cone currently serves as first Vice President of NACDA’s DI-AAA Executive Committee and as a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Executive Committee. Cone has also served on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Selection Committee as well.
Beyond her work at UNC Asheville, Cone also helped create the Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission, which attracts national events to the local community. She has served as a former chair and continues to be a founding board member of the Commission.
For her many efforts and accomplishments, Cone was honored with the 2019 NACDA Builder’s Award and the 2013 Under Armor Athletic Director of the Year.
