Press release from the Charles George VA Medical Center:

On May 17, the 7th annual VA2K Walk & Roll event will be held at here at the Charles George VA Medical Center.  The event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. under the wooden pavilion by mental health, and end around 2:00 p.m. This event will feature live music (Legler and the Vets) and refreshments.

Last year’s VA2K Walk & Roll event was a big success with more than 19,500 VA employees and 8,100 Veterans participating at more than 160 VA locations across the country. The VA2K encourages VA employees to adopt an active lifestyle by providing the opportunity to enjoy a short two-kilometer (approximately 1.24 miles) walk.  This walk can be completed in around 20 minutes.

This event also helps homeless Veterans.  Participants are asked to bring donations in the form of new clothing, toiletries, pre-packaged food, bottled water, and money. Donations are completely voluntary and are not required in order to participate in the event.  Since 2011, the VA2K has generated donated items valued at more than $1.73 million to help homeless Veterans.

Donations of money and tangible goods for homeless Veterans are welcomed on the day of the event and during the next 4 weeks leading up to the event. Leading up to the event, you may drop off  your donations to the Voluntary Service Office and inform the team that the donation is for the VA2K.  On the day of the event, you may drop off your donations at the pavilion. All donations will be managed by Voluntary Services. After the event, the donated items are collected and distributed to local homeless Veterans.
