Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office press release:
On Thursday, Oct. 4, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a wellness check in the 100 block of Pisgah Road in Asheville, N.C. As deputies approached the residence, they came under gunfire, with approximately four shots being fired. the deputies took cover until the Buncombe County Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiators arrived and secured the scene. After a brief negotiation, the suspect surrendered, and was taken into custody without further incident.
Douglas Bruce Wells, a 64-year old white male from Asheville, was charged with three (3) counts of of Attempted First Degree Murder, two (2) counts of Assault on a Government Official and one (1) count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Mr. Wells has been placed in the Buncombe County Detention Facility.
As this investigation is ongoing, we do not have additional information to release at this time.
