Whole Foods holds Veterans Helping Veterans fundraiser, April 7

From Whole Foods Market

Press release

On Tuesday, April 7, Whole Foods Market will host a 5 Percent Day to benefit Veterans Helping Veterans of Western North Carolina. Five percent of the store’s sales on April 7 will benefit the local nonprofit, whose mission is to seek and provide housing for homeless veterans, job training and job placement for veterans.

Funding will go towards helping the nonprofit develop and construct a housing community, featuring sustainable agriculture and an education center. In its 5 Percent Day application, Veterans Helping Veterans proposed that some dollars raised be directed toward building a tiny home for an 82-year-old veteran currently residing with Veterans Helping Veterans.

“We see veterans in our store each day and are often reminded of how thankful we are for their service,” said Tony Sgro, Whole Foods Market Asheville Store Team Leader. “But, there are far more we don’t see and those who need our help. We hope the Asheville community will rally to support this effort and visit our store on April 7.”

Representatives of Veterans Helping Veterans will be at the store on April 7 to meet and speak with shoppers about the nonprofit’s mission, current initiatives, volunteer opportunities and the progress of its community housing development.

In December 2014, Whole Foods Market and sister store Greenlife Grocery partnered to host 5 Percent Day recipient Asheville on Bikes. Together, the two stores donated more than $5,600 to the cycling advocacy organization.
