Winter storm cancellations for Monday, Dec. 10

Asheville, N.C. — As heavy wet snow blankets Western North Carolina on Sunday, with continuing precipitation and the chance of ice forecast into Monday morning, the following cancellations have been announced:

  • Asheville City Schools: system closed for students and staff on Monday, Dec. 10. All scheduled events are canceled, including the Board of Education meeting, which will be held Monday, Dec. 17, with the work session beginning at 4 p.m. and the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. According to a press release, instructional time will be made up on Monday, April 22. Monday, June 17 will additionally become an optional teacher workday.
  • Buncombe County Schools: system closed for students and staff on Monday, Dec. 10.
  • A-B Tech: closed for day and evening classes on Monday, Dec. 10.
  • Henderson County Public Schools: system closed for students and staff on Monday, Dec. 10. The school board meeting scheduled for Monday night has been canceled. The next meeting will be Monday, Jan. 14.
  • City of Hendersonville: all non-emergency local government offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 10.
  • Western Carolina University, Cullowhee campus: all exams originally scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday have been moved to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14. Faculty members have the option of administering these exams online at their discretion.
    All operations at the Cullowhee campus will be at Condition 1 (Reduced Operations – University is Open) until 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10.
  • Western Carolina University, Biltmore Park instructional site: closed both day and night on Monday, Dec. 10. Biltmore Park students should check their email and/or blackboard for further instructions from faculty regarding their exams.
  • UNC Asheville: no on-campus final exams on Monday, Dec. 10. The university is under suspended operations through 5 p.m. Monday. Faculty and staff who are not mandatory personnel are advised not to come to campus on Monday. More details at bulldogalert.unca.edu.
  • Mission Health: visit missionhealth.org for an updated list of closings and delays.
  • Buncombe County Courthouse: closed Monday, Dec. 10. Per a tweet from Buncombe County District Attorney Todd Williams, if you had a criminal matter set for court tomorrow, a new date will be set Tuesday (or the next regular business day). You will be notified of your new court date.
  • Reuter Center Singers: holiday concert originally scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10, is rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at the Reuter Center at UNC Asheville. This concert is free and open to everyone.
  • City of Asheville: Asheville government offices, including all recreation centers, will be closed Monday, Dec. 10, and all city board and commission meetings are canceled.
  • Asheville garbage collection: trash service for Monday, Dec. 10, will be delayed until the following day.
  • ART bus service: service will resume at noon Monday, Dec 10. Visit ridetheart.com for updated information.
