WLOS: Erwin students suspended following LGBT disruption

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — Some Erwin High School students are in hot water after an incident involving a gay pride flag got out of hand.

Three students were suspended for what administrators call inappropriate behavior. Administration says it wasn’t the waving of the flag that lead to the discipline, but rather the disruption students caused.

Two students have been given in-school suspension, another was suspended out of school. The school district says the issue had nothing to do with the message those students were sending, but the inappropriate behavior used to send it.
