WNC Career Expo to open Tuesday, Oct. 11

With more than 100 area employers in various high-demand industries registered to participate, job seekers are encouraged to attend the WNC Career Expo on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 11a.m. to 4p.m. at the WNC Agricultural Center’s Davis Event Center in Fletcher.

The WNC Career Expo is free to attend for job seekers and no registration is required. The event will include free resources for attendees like resumé reviews and one-on-one interview preparation with career development experts.

“The WNC Career Expo is the place to connect with well-paying work,” said Nathan Ramsey, director of the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board. “More than 100 employers from growing industries like health care and advanced manufacturing are attending, and most are hiring for jobs paying $19 per hour or more.”

Job seekers can view a full list of participating employers at WNCCareerExpo.com. 59 participating employers plan to interview candidates for available roles on site, and 35 employers in various industries are willing to make employment offers on the spot. More than 100 participating employers are hiring for at least one job paying $19 or more per hour.

Job seekers looking for career options that fit their schedules and household needs can explore a range of options at the WNC Career Expo. More than 90 participating employers are hiring for various shifts, like weekends, nights, or second shift, and 24 participating employers are hiring for jobs that can be worked remotely.

People who have been disconnected from employment are encouraged to participate in the WNC Career Expo. Most registered employers are hiring to fill entry-level roles that require no more than a high school diploma or GED, and many consider candidates who have a previous justice involvement or incarceration.

The WNC Career Expo is presented by the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board, with additional support from Bojangles, A-B Technical Community College, Asheville Radio Group, iHeart Media, Advanced Business Equipment,= and FASTSIGNS of Asheville.

INFORMATION FOR JOB SEEKERS

Free on-site services including one-on-one interview preparation, resume review, and resume printing will be available to all job seekers with no appointments necessary.

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS

All WNC Career Expo participants and attendees – both employers and job seekers – will be asked to follow Buncombe County protocols for COVID-19 safety in effect at the time of the event.

Buncombe County recommends that individuals stay home when sick. As of September 19, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that individuals in Buncombe County take the following actions:

• Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
• Get tested if you have symptoms
• Wear a mask if you have symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19
• Wear a mask on public transportation
