Press Release
Western North Carolina Alliance
Join the Western North Carolina Alliance on Sunday, March 16 for a nighttime paddle down our beloved French Broad River.
The trip will take place under the Full Worm Moon, named by the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. At the time of this moon, the ground begins to soften and earthworm casts reappear, inviting the return of robins.
This is also known as the Sap Moon, as it marks the time when maple sap begins to flow and the annual tapping of maple trees begins. This moonlit journey will be led by our French Broad Riverkeeper Hartwell Carson.
We’ll cap off the evening with wine (for those 21 and up) and cheese.
Paddlers will gather at 6:10 p.m. at Jean Webb Park (30 Riverside Drive). Put in on the river will be at 6:40. Sunset will be 7:04 p.m.
Spaces are very limited, so RSVP today by contacting WNCA Education and Outings Coordinator Isabelle Rios at Isabelle@WNCA.org or at (828) 258-8737, ext. 201.
