WNCAP honors National HIV Testing Day with wellness events

Press Release

Western North Carolina Aids Project

In recognition of National HIV Testing Day, WNCAP has been busy all week holding HIV testing events throughout the community. Today, we will be at the “Prevention is Caring” health fair on Oconaluftee Island in Cherokee, NC from 10am – 2pm, tonight at the “Community Shout Out” health fair at the Deaverview Apartments, Asheville, NC from 6pm – 8pm and tomorrow at Varick Chapel, AME Zion Church, Asheville, NC from 11am – 2pm.Thanks to all our community partners for making these events possible.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, recommends that everyone get tested at least once for HIV as a routine part of medical care, and that gay and bisexual men and others at high risk be tested more frequently. Requesting an HIV test is the first step towards making informed decisions about staying healthy and protecting others.

WNCAP offers free, confidential HIV rapid tests by appointment, in the office, and at remote locations throughout Western North Carolina. To schedule an appointment for an HIV rapid test or for information on holding an HIV testing event at your community organization or faith-based group, please call Cameron Edmonds at 828-252-7489. For a list of current WNCAP testing events, please go to our website at wncap.org
