Youth OUTright to hold panel on homelessness and queer youth, Jan. 19

The WNC Gay-Straight Alliance/ Youth OUTright

The WNC Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Initiative will present, Homelessness & Queer Youth in WNC, a free panel discussion for GSA students and allied youth (ages 14 to 23), and advisers on Monday, January 19, at 6:00 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 20 Oak Street in Asheville.

The panel discussion will be led by E. Keith Bramlett, Professor, UNC Asheville and Chair, Board of Directors, Youth Outright, WNC Inc., and will include panel members:

Allister Styan, WNC Community Health Services & Help OUT Youth,
Amy Hobson, Trinity Place Youth Shelter,
Joey Lopez, Haywood Street Congregation & Campaign for Southern
Equality,
Thomas O’Neill, Haywood Street Congregation,
Amy Cantrell & Lauren White, Be Loved House,
Zeek Christopoulos, Tranzmission

Panel Moderators: Joseph Pautz from Asheville High School and Joshua Bledsoe from Blue Ridge Community College.

“We hope the forum will be the start of an ongoing discussion about homeless LGBTQ youth in Western North Carolina,” said Youth OUTright Executive Director Jim Faucett.

FREE Refreshments will be served.

This forum is a project of Youth OUTright’s WNC GSA Initiative and is underwritten in part by The Cathedral of All Souls Outreach Ministries, the Community Foundation of Henderson County, Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund and General Grant, and TD Charitable Foundation. The Initiative was developed by YO to connect LGBTQ and allied youth and supportive school personnel throughout our region.

Youth OUTright, WNC, Inc., a 501c-3, not-for-profit organization, offers discussion groups and social activities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, ages 14 through 23. Programs are held every Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in downtown Asheville. Topics and activities are led by two trained facilitators. Youth OUTright’s mission is to empower LGBTQ youth to be confident and vital members of the greater community.
