Hanger Hall: A School for Girls is searching for a full-time Head of School for the 2019-2020 school year. Hanger Hall is a unique learning community for middle school girls located in Asheville, North Carolina.  Celebrating its 20th year in 2020, the school seeks to develop not only the academic skills and intellectual potential of each girl, but promote social and emotional development, confidence, individuality, and creativity—“nurturing the girl and empowering the emerging woman."  An independent, non-profit school (74 students), small classes (average size of 12) enable the faculty to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

The Head of School sets the tone for a welcoming, innovative, collaborative educational community.  The Head inspires a shared vision for the school and facilitates planning to achieve those goals, creating positive relations within and beyond the school community.  The Head also serves as chief administrative officer, ensuring strong management and organizational effectiveness.  This includes planning for and oversight of the following:
School program/curriculum
School Finances: budgeting, development and fund raising
Marketing, admissions, and community relations
Recruiting, supervising, and mentoring faculty
Facility planning and management

Experienced educator and school leader (preferably in similar school setting).

Graduate degree in education or related field.

Understanding of the developmental needs of adolescent girls and philosophical underpinnings of single-gender educational model.

Energetic, visionary person with the practical/managerial skills to plan and achieve goals.

Interest in being part of a caring, supportive, small school community that values innovation and collaboration.

Strong role model for middle school girls: Balanced. Good communicator. Listener. Creative and collaborative problem solver. Caring and encouraging. Positive. Flexible. Honest. Good sense of humor and sense of adventure.

Must have experience with the following:
Personnel management (recruitment, supervision, mentoring),
Program evaluation,
Budgeting and Financial Management, and
Institutional Advancement.

Benefits: Salary range from $67,000 to $73,000, commensurate with education and experience; retirement plan; paid leave; healthcare; and FLEX benefits.
