VegHeads drive-thru is getting a dining room, but you'll have to go to Savannah to eat in it.
The Merrimon Avenue vegetarian restaurant will open a second location in Savannah's historic district, a few blocks from iconic River Street. Chef and co-owner David Rowland will move south to open the new venture. “There's not a vegetarian presence,” he says. “So we've got a great opportunity.”
Savannah is a pedestrian city, Rowland explains, so the second VegHeads will offer 30 seats and counter service instead of a drive-up window.
While the buildings will look different, both eateries will serve the same menu, which features hearty soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps. Items like the Mountain Burger, which features a lentil, bulgar wheat and veggie patty, will reflect the restaurant's Asheville roots.
This expansion could be the first of several, Rowland says. He and his partners are considering Boone and Nashville for potential locations.
VegHeads is located at 705 Merrimon Ave. in Asheville and now at 35 Whitaker St. in Savannah. For more information, visit vegheadsasheville.com or vegheadssavannah.com.
