Small Bites

With the recent opening of Azteca #2, Asheville now has two Mexican bakeries—both on Patton Avenue in Asheville. “I don’t know why he doesn’t open on Tunnel Road—maybe he’s wanting a fight,” mused a staffer at La Espija, which has already built up a steady clientele at its Patton Avenue location since its July opening.

C.F. Chan’s in Asheville is out of the dim sum game. The Chen family-owned restaurant, which last year opened on the Broadway Avenue corner formerly occupied by Beanstreets coffee house, has absorbed sister eatery Sushi Thai’s kitchen staff and obscenely popular Thai-tilting menu. The Chens have replaced Sushi Thai with Kanpai Sushi, a Japanese restaurant and sake bar.

By having your March 29 meal wheeled to you, you can help Meals on Wheels continue to serve homebound seniors in Asheville and Buncombe County. The nonprofit Meals on Wheels is offering a $12 gourmet lunch of chicken, pasta and fruit salads to benefit its hot-meal-delivery program. A minimum purchase of five meals is required for delivery. Call 253-5286 to reserve your lunches by March 20.
