Asheville-area food and restaurant news

Hendersonville is now home to another sports bar, which, the owners say, will distinguish itself with fresh foods and live music. Eleanor’s Sports Tavern and Grill opened last month at 430 N. Main St. and features nine oversized, high-definition televisions. The restaurant is open every day from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m., with closing extended one hour on Fridays and Saturdays. Café Azalea in east Asheville (1011 Tunnel Road) is hosting its first wine dinner next week. The Wenesday, March 28, meal, highlighting Italian wines provided by Empire Distributors, will feature grilled striped bass with fennel-and-olive salad, venison tenderloin and chocolate-espresso decadence for dessert. For reservations, call 299-3753.

Haywood County’s restaurants and inns are gearing up for the third annual Melange of the Mountains, a culinary competition sponsored by the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce. The event features a public sampling starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Balsam Mountain Inn. Tickets are $40 per person; call 456-3021 for reservations.
