Hark! Registrations received by Aug. 16 will be discounted, and the first 100 runners to enter will receive a complimentary T-shirt.  Participants can also register at the race between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The fee to enter is $20 for adults ($15 if postmarked by Aug. 16), and $15 for children ages 12 and under ($10 if postmarked by Aug. 16).

For more information, call Kim Kennedy at 253-3714 or shoot her an e-mail at montfordr@ashevillenc.gov.

Trouble in river city: Summer may be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away the gear.

To be sure that you don’t, Diamond Brand Outdoors will host a Paddlesports Demo Day and Sale on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Julian in beautiful Skyland.

Participants can try kayaks, canoes and fishing boats from respected makers including Riot, Pyranha, Dagger, Wave Sport, Mad River, Perception and LiquidLogic.

Better yet, to ensure that you don’t do yourself a mischief, a certified kayaking instructor and representatives from the boat manufacturers will be on hand to offer advice and information.

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service.
