WHAT: Montford Park Players’ Second Annual Masquerade Ball
WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 6, 6-10 p.m.
WHERE: The Venue, 21 N. Market St.
WHY: Looking to get dressed up to support an Asheville institution? Montford Park Players has just completed its 42nd season entertaining crowds at Asheville’s Hazel Robinson Amphitheater. Those many years of performance have taken their toll on costumes, sets, stage and grounds, and the players need some help with a refresh.
The company will hold its annual masquerade benefit at The Venue, and it will “be the event of the season, with great local food and drinks donated by local restaurants,” says Managing Director John Russell.
A raffle and silent auction will be held through the evening with premier items on the block, such as estate jewelry from Wick & Greene Jewelers, a full-length mink coat and four tickets to Disney World. Proceeds from the event will offset the cost of costumes, sets and royalties for performing select shows. “The revenues from tickets rarely covers between 20 and 25 percent of our annual operating budget,” notes Russell.
Funds will also support the Player’s capital campaign to improving seating, the stage house and ADA access in the amphitheater. A 1,400 square feet welcome center to house concessions, merchandise and Shakespeare’s Tavern, where guests can sip local beer while taking in a show, is also planned.
“Get dressed up and come out to have a great time, bid on some amazing items and support a local nonprofit,” Russell says.
Tickets for the event are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. The event is cocktail attire, with costumes recommended. For more information, please visit montfordparkplayers.org.
